“The word ‘art’ is very slippery. It really has no importance in relation to one’s work. I work for the pleasure, for the pleasure of the work, and everything else is a matter for the critics.” -Manuel Alvarez Bravo
Ryan loves pushing the boundaries of artistic expression and his work is a result of the constant battle between an artist’s desire to be completely uninhibited and limitations of the physical reality. Drawing influences from minimalistic philosophy, Ryan loves playing with the human form within the harmony that nature provides; showcasing emotive and evocative themes. His process highlights strong elements of visual composition, sculptures and human emotion.
A storyteller by passion, Ryan has learnt from photographers such as Trevor and Faye Yerbury, Brooke Shaden, Bruce Smith and numerous others. He studied Fashion Photography and styling from London College of Fashion. His photography work has been published in Vogue Italia and in magazine publications such as Coast. However, he realised fine art photography gave him the greatest satisfaction.
Ryan believes the greatest thing an artist can do is to compare themselves no other but listen into their own voice refining their artistic expression. His passion is in challenging the possible through visual evocative storytelling. If theres one line he could describe his work, it would be to inspire people to see the extraordinary in the ordinary.
